Building product configurators since 2013

Simplio3D is a subsidiary of Digital Artflow, a company headquartered in Romania, developing web-based interactive applications since 2009

The platform was launched in December 2013 being at that time one of the few pioneers in product configuration software, offering for the first time a ready-made solution.

The company created the platform with the mission of making product configurators more flexible in terms of development, but at the same time more affordable and faster delivery, bringing the latest technologies in a unique library of resources named SEL (Simplio Element Library).

Our team has been interested in making 3d product configurators more accessible and easier to use, using as less code as possible for the implementation part. This led us to a low-code application platform that originally was a script and customers would set up a hosting server and install the script to activate a product configurator in the same way we do now with CMS applications like WordPress.

Today, the Simplio3D platform has become a very complex software solution covering a wide range of requirements from advanced product customization and 3D visualization techniques, to various backend capabilities and Augmented/Virtual Reality features. The newly developed platform is based on over 10 years of experience, with a mission to be user-friendly of any skill level. To do this, Simplio3D implemented a unique architecture, eliminating the tree structure and editing in the viewport, replacing with block logic, for example product options, prices and forms are created in one logic, using blocks with different attributes.

From the simplest to the most complex configurators, our solution can cover almost any requirement and budget.

How the platform got here

Simplio3D is a subsidiary of Digital Artflow, headquartered in Romania.

  1. Digital Artflow starts building interactive web applications

The parent company begins developing web-based interactive applications — the background that later made a browser-native configurator platform possible.

  2. Simplio3D launches

The platform launches in December 2013, one of the few ready-made product configuration solutions available at the time. In its first form it was a script customers installed on their own hosting, much like a CMS.

  3. The Simplio Element Library

Rather than rebuilding each configurator from scratch, common capabilities were consolidated into a library of modular components — the origin of the block architecture the platform still uses.

  4. A block-based cloud platform

The current platform replaced tree structures and viewport editing with block logic: product options, prices and forms are all built from blocks with attributes. It runs as a cloud service, so infrastructure, updates and performance are handled centrally.

  5. AI and agent connectivity

Configurators can now be generated from a product description and audited by an AI assistant, and an MCP server lets AI agents inspect projects, evaluate conditional logic and calculate pricing under a controlled-write model.

Why the architecture matters

Most configurator projects fail on the second product: the first is built as bespoke software, and the second needs the same effort again because nothing was reusable. Building everything from blocks — option blocks for what customers choose, logic for what constrains them, price blocks for what it costs — is what makes the second product assembly rather than a new development project. From the simplest configurators to the most complex, the same components cover a wide range of requirements and budgets.
